Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mildred (Millie) Waller, brother Walter Johnson (Clara) and sister Irene Mahaley (Arnold).
Charlie is survived by his sons, Billy Waller (Rachel) of Pittsboro and David Waller (Karen) of Raleigh; Sister, Marietta Seaford (Gene) of Salisbury; Brother, Tommy Waller (Teenie) of Salisbury; Grandchildren, Dean Graham (Alia) of Chapel Hill; Caroline Waller of Cary and Katherine Waller (Chase McLamb) of Raleigh, Great Grandson, Austin Graham.
After serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War, he worked for Southern Railroad in Spencer as a machinist. Upon the closing of the Spencer shops, Charlie worked for the NC Department of Transportation Equipment Depot in Raleigh, NC as a machinist and supervisor of the machine shop for 30 years until retirement in 1990. Charlie and Millie loved camping, spending time at Kerr Lake and time with their family and especially their Siberian Huskies. They always took time to attend events with their children such as scouts, little league baseball and volunteering to help with the Cary Band. They also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren whether cooking pancakes for breakfast or providing transportation home from middle school as needed.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, July 28 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary. Visitation will follow. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 29 at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Community Center Rd, Salisbury, NC.
