

Christine Wolff Massey (maiden name: Christine Martha Arnoldi Wolff), 79, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 20, 1945, to William Maxwell Wolff and Jennie Duryasz Wolff. She was a graduate of Wagner College where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1966. Christine was a Registered Nurse and a Professor of Nursing at Barton College in Wilson, NC. She retired from teaching her beloved students in 2011. While working at Barton College she also held the position of Dean (Interim) School of Nursing from 2009-2010. For many years, Christine also worked part-time as a pool nurse at the Wake County Alcoholism Treatment Center.
She held many awards and certificates. She was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau in April 1987, inducted into Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 1990 and 1998, and into Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in April 2002. She was certified as a sex educator by the American Association of Sex Educators Counselors and Therapists, certified as a Chemical Dependency Nurse by the National Consortium of Chemical Dependency Nurses, and certified for excellence as generalist practitioner of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing by the American Nurses’ Associates.
Christine had a passion for puzzles, writing, arts and crafts, origami, Ukrainian eggs, her many friends and her friend groups (crochet/knitting), her cat Miko, playing poker, volunteering at the blue grass festival, travelling (had been to 21 countries and 49 of the 50 states), telling funny stories and her nursing students. One of her favorite places to visit was The Inn at Starlight Lake in Pennsylvania where her family spent summers starting in 1903 and where she ultimately met her husband (Norman Massey) in 1960. They married in July 1969 and while their marriage turned out to be less permanent than they expected, they continued to remain friends and raise their two children.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jennie and William Wolff, ex-husband Norman Massey and son-in-law, Joshua Connolly.
She is survived by her daughter, Kendra Connolly, her son, Stephen Massey (Cristine), 2 grandchildren, Mikaela Connolly and Grace Massey, niece, Victoria Ildefonso, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at Brown Wynne of Cary funeral home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511 on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.
