Cleo Dempsey Harvell, 87, a resident of Oakhill Living Center, passed away on January 5, 2011. Born on March 28, 1923 in Wake County; he was the son of the late Clarence and Lula Adams Harvell. He served honorably in the US Navy during WWII and retired as a truck driver with Standard Trucking after 32 years of employment. Following his retirement he delivered the Fuquay-Varina Independent for close to 10 years.
Cleo was an active member of Kennebec Baptist Church in Angier. Known lovingly as “Pappy”, he welcomed newcomers, visited the sick with the preacher on Wednesdays and simply lived the life of service to others without thought. He loved his family, fishing, Bojangles, gravy biscuits and his car, “Samantha”.
He is survived by his children: Dianna Wentz and husband Matt, of Cary, Steve Harvell and wife Dottie, of Raleigh, Darlene Harvell, of Fuquay-Varina and Cindy Blackburn, of Waynesboro, GA; by their mother, Hilda Young, of Dunn, by his grandchildren, Jenny Mitchell and husband Hardin, of Pittsboro, Richard Hair, of Durham, Scott Harvell, of Raleigh, Katie Harvell, of Raleigh and Joshua “Shane” Frazier, of Cherokee; by a brother, Henry Harvell, of Raleigh; and by a niece, Joyce Caudle, of Raleigh.
Cleo was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harvell.
Family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 2-4 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (200 SE Maynard Rd in Cary). Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 3 PM at Kennebec Baptist Church in Angier, with interment to follow at the church cemetery.
