Cornelia Nalugon Feeny, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on July 26, 2026 at the age of 71. One of thirteen children, she was born in San Pedro, Duero, Bohol and grew up in Polomolok, South Cotabato, Mindanao in the Philippines. She moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1989, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Cornelia, called “Nelly” or “Nel” by those who knew her best, had a gift for making friends everywhere she went. She could easily strike up conversations with strangers, who didn’t stay strangers for long. She was so popular at the grocery store that a “quick trip” often turned into a few hours so she could catch up with all the familiar faces she was sure to run into. She became a big part of the Filipino community in the area when she first moved to Raleigh, and she stayed close with many of her friends for over thirty years.
She was an excellent cook and had many signature dishes, including Filipino and Italian foods. Mealtimes were very important for Nelly, and she made sure there was always room at the table for the whole family and any friends who happened to drop by.
She was very active in her church community, and she lent her beautiful singing voice to the choir at Sacred Heart Cathedral and later Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh. At home, she loved to listen to the radio while cooking, singing along to oldies hits from Casey Kasem’s Top 40 countdowns.
Nelly was preceded in death by Tom, her husband of thirty-five years; and her siblings, Alberto, Romulo, Felicisimo, and Marvelita. She is survived by her four children, Jed, Vera, Lorelei, and Jared; her siblings, Carmen, Antonia, Exuperio, Ramon, Sister Crispina, Julita, Lucille, and Albert; and many extended family members and treasured friends.
