Cortez (Corky) Anderson, 93, of Cary, N.C., died on July 11, 2012 at Windsor Point Retirement Community. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at First United Methodist Church on Academy Street in Cary. The family will receive friends in the church narthex following the service.
Corky was born in Cullman County, Alabama on September 17, 1918 and was the third daughter of Ed and Lola Johnson. Following high school graduation, Corky attended Florence State Teacher’s College and taught elementary school in Cold Springs, Alabama. There she met her future husband, Robert H. Anderson, Jr. of Orange, Massachusetts. They married on March 28, 1941 and celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year.
Faith, family and service were high priorities to Corky. An active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ocala, Florida, Corky served as a fifth grade Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a loyal member of the United Methodist Church Women’s Circle and assisted her husband with the Kingdom of the Son Crusade in the early 70’s.
Corky took great pleasure in her family and celebrated the birth of each of her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Corky particularly enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their vacation home on Lake Mattawa in Orange, Massachusetts.
Corky is survived by her husband, Bob, son, Bob III (Sara) of Cary and daughter, Carol Crawford (Bob) of Olney, Maryland; grandchildren Carolyn Anderson Farrell (Rich) of Boston, MA, Mark Anderson (Lisa) of Wilmington, NC, Lauren Crawford Holbrook (Chris) of Cheboygan, MI, Ashley Crawford Elliott (Jason) of Colonial Heights, VA; great-grandchildren Faith (9), Luke (6) and Evelyna Mae (3) Farrell, Crawford (5) and Hugh (1) Anderson, Miriam Holbrook (1), Madison (2) and Jackson (9 months) Elliott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to FUMC – Cary children’s ministries or Smile Train.
