She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her beloved family, after a nearly two-year fight against pancreatic cancer - one she faced with bravery and strength.
Born on August 26, 1963, in Wilmington, North Carolina, Cyndi spent her early years in Peru, Indiana. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and later earned her master’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A proud Tar Heel, she cherished cheering for her team and always carried a deep love for her alma mater.
In 1986, Cyndi married Steven Douglas Squires, the love of her life, at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Holly Springs, North Carolina, minutes from their current home. After meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, their journey began with a move to Emerald Isle, North Carolina, near Camp Lejeune, where Steve served in the United States Marine Corps. For her sacrificial care and service, she was awarded Meritorious Mast as a military wife. Their 39-year marriage was a testament to their love, commitment, and faith.
A devout Christian, Cyndi’s life reflected her unwavering faith in the Lord. She dedicated her career to serving as a school psychologist for Wake County Public Schools, where she profoundly impacted countless students and families over several decades.
Cyndi is survived by her parents, Deborah Kerr Rucker and David Warren Rucker; her sisters Jean Pauline Johns and husband Chris and Merideth Lynn Page and husband Greg, her devoted husband, Steven Douglas Squires; sons, Steven Douglas Squires Jr. and his wife Kelly, and Warren Reid Squires and his wife Micah; and her six cherished grandchildren, Magnolia Grace, June Evelyn, Jude Warren, Ella Ruth, Bruce Isaac (Bear), and the newly born Cynthia Anne (Annie), who carries on her namesake. She also leaves behind her best friend and lifelong sister in spirit, Juli Schrieber, whose companionship was a constant source of joy and strength.
Cyndi’s love extended to her four-legged companions, her dachshunds Max and Otto, who preceded her in death, and Bella and Boogie, who will dearly miss her care and affection.
Cyndi’s legacy is one of love, humor, faith, and selfless service. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. All who knew her will deeply miss her warmth, sharp wisdom, and compassion.
While we grieve her absence, we rejoice that she is at peace in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she trusted with every moment of her life and through her final breath. Her steadfast faith assures us that she now enjoys eternal life in His presence.
A funeral will be held at The Summit Church, Apex Campus on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at 11:00 am followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sojourn Montrose Church’s building project in her honor, a project she was passionate to see completed.
