He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lee; sons, David Jr. and wife, Mary, and Andrew and wife, Torrie; grandchildren, Kelsey, Caroline, Rowan, and Ashton; and sisters, Charlotte Green and husband, Robert, and Marlene Gregory.
In addition to his parents, Mark and Esther, he was preceded in death by his brother, John.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at White Plains United Methodist Church, 313 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of David can be made to White Plains United Methodist Church.
