
Dave was born March 13, 1920, to Abraham and Polly (Brown) Levin in Hartford, CT, where he grew up. He graduated in 1942 from New York University, where he met his future wife, Shirley Hurwitz. They married in 1942 before he left for service in the Pacific, where he was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps. After the war, the couple moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, where they lived for over 60 years, raising a family and being active in the local community.
Dave was the owner of Dale Garment Company, a manufacturer of children's and ladies' clothing. He was an active member and past secretary of the BPOE Elks Lodge of Lynchburg and served for many years as a volunteer at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital and the Centra Bridges Treatment Center. He and his family were members of Congregation Agudath Shalom.
Dave is survived by daughters Jill Grosman of Cary, NC, and Peggy Sue Salwen of New York, NY; sons-in-law Barry Grosman and Peter Salwen; grandsons Mark Kremer, James Salwen and William Salwen; devoted niece Pam Stonebarger; and other loving family members.
A private service will be held at the family Zevin Descendants plot in New York. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice, 3200 Atlantic Ave. #100, Raleigh, NC 27604 or Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital, 3300 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
