Dennis Marion Day

Dennis was born on April 22, 1948, in Huntington, Indiana, to Vaughn and Evelyn Day. He grew up in Indiana and attended Indiana Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering, beginning a remarkable career that would span nearly four decades.

Dennis enjoyed a distinguished career with Caterpillar, serving in a variety of engineering design and management roles. His career took him around the world and provided opportunities to live in Illinois,Iowa, North Carolina, and England while traveling extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. A gifted engineer and leader, Dennis left a lasting legacy through numerous patents and innovations. He was especially proud of mentoring 36 young engineers, helping shape the next generation of professionals through his guidance, encouragement, and example.

Outside of his career, Dennis was known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and ability to fix almost anything. He loved restoring and working on tractors, proudly displaying them at local fairs, and was never happier than when he was tackling a project around the house. He was also a lifelong train enthusiast who enjoyed both trains and model railroading.

Faith and service were central to Dennis's life. He was an active volunteer at his church and devoted countless hours to helping others, including participating in Habitat for Humanity projects and other mission work that helped build homes for families in Mexico. He found great satisfaction in using his talents to serve his community and improve the lives of others.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn and Evelyn Day, and his brother, Jack Day.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Connie Day; his sister, Linda; his brother, Jerry; his daughter, Ginger (William) Jackson; his sons, Jeff (Meredith) Day and Jeremy (Niki) Day; and his cherished grandchildren, Chandler, Peyton, Grace, Sydney, and Simon. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Devoted City Church, 590 Westhigh Street, Cary, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or Habitat for Humanity, organizations that reflect Dennis's commitment to helping others and making a lasting difference in the world.

Dennis will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, engineer, volunteer, and friend. His integrity, kindness, wisdom, and willingness to serve others leave a legacy that will continue through the countless lives he touched.
