Born on July 13, 1932, in Houston, Texas, Doratha lived a long and beautiful life filled with love, faith, and kindness. On June 30, 1951, she married the love of her life, Donald Jack Moore, in Houston, Texas. Together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on February 5, 2015. Their union was a testament to enduring love, faith, and devotion—built on mutual respect, laughter, and a shared commitment to family and God.
In 1958, Doratha and Donald moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where they built a loving home and became deeply rooted in their church and community. Doratha was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Brooks Avenue Church of Christ for 66 years. She served in many roles, including Church Secretary, teacher, Elder’s wife, and kitchen manager. She also directed more than 100 weddings, offering her organizational gifts and calming presence to countless couples and families.
Doratha had a long and dedicated career at North Carolina State University, where she worked as an administrative assistant for 27 years before retiring in 1997. She was respected for her professionalism, efficiency, and kindness.
Her warmth, hospitality, and nurturing spirit touched generations within her church family. Known affectionately as “Mom” by many, Doratha’s care and guidance left a lasting impact. In the church kitchen—where she fed both bodies and souls—she was known to rule with an iron spatula, ensuring every meal was prepared with excellence, love, and a touch of humor.
Doratha loved her children, grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love continues through her family; daughter: Donna Doratha Moore Bondurant (Stan) of Newnan, Georgia; son: Robert William “Bobby” Moore (Karen) of Cary, North Carolina; sister: Lou Alice Chappell Roden of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren: Eric Michael Lothspeich; Lauren Lothspeich Sisko (Dennis); Catherine Lothspeich Archer (Benjamin); Kristen Chappell McDade (Bryant); Ashley Brooke Carrera (Jordan); Allison Moore Twiford (Jay); and great-grandchildren: Emily Brooke Massey; Diana Doratha Archer; Austin James Twiford; Cameron Robert Twiford; Brooklyn Rae Carrera; Milo Blaine Carrera.
Doratha will be remembered for her wisdom, humor, faith, and the quiet strength with which she faced life’s joys and challenges. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she lived a full, faithful, and meaningful life dedicated to God and to those she loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 3:00 p.m.
