He was born in New Bern, NC on June 28, 1946 to Joseph and Margaret Highsmith Kelly. Doug was a 1964 graduate of Rose High School in Greenville, NC. He married his high school sweetheart, Gail Gardner, on June 25, 1965.
In addition to Gail, he is survived by son Mike (Valerie) Kelly, daughter Christy Kelly, grandchildren Andrew, Brandon, Amanda, Kayla, and Tyler, and sister Phyllis (Bob) Thacker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe and Bill Kelly, and sisters Marie Stilley and Bernice Bishop.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2017 in the Chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC.
