Douglas Keith Richmond passed away peacefully on December 4th, 2022. He was surrounded by his son Reid, son Kevin, and daughter-in-law Karen. He had been visited by grand-daughter Olivia Speaker and her husband Jason, a very close friend from his church, and a member of the extended family. But even though the number of those present was few, the love and prayers of friends and family that, regrettably, could not be there in person, filled every corner of the room, and filled the hearts of those beside him.
Doug was pre-deceased by his sister Polly DeGreen, his beloved wife Anita, and his eldest son Dale – all taken before their time. Anita remained his one true love until his death.
Doug grew up in NE Ohio and went to college in West Virginia at Bethany College. He met Anita there and they would continue to be active in alumni events for as long as they were together, and the college continued to hold a special place in his heart after she was gone. Doug was her sole caregiver during her fight with Alzheimer’s, and took on the task with gentleness, love, and strength.
Doug retired from The Environmental Protection Agency and enjoyed his time with family and friends. He loved the theater, and he LOVED music. Whether with the choir at church, or as a founding member of The Methodaires, or in performances at Searstone Village, he loved to sing.
His church and his church family were very important to him, and he dedicated his life to the service of the lord and service of those in need.
Doug is survived by his Brother Dean, his sons, Reid and Kevin, their wives, Monica and Karen, his grandchildren, Brooke, Leah, Olivia, Savannah, and Troy, and by his great grandchildren, Kylie, Peyton, Skylar, Paisley, Braxton, Sutton, and Landon.
He is at Peace.
Services will be held at First United Methodist church in Cary, NC on Friday 12/09/22 at 11:00 AM.
