

Edwin “Buck” E. Clifton, 95, passed away on November 11, 2025 He was born on June 2,1930, to Ben L. Clifton and Thelma A. Clifton. A lifelong resident of Raleigh, he graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon return to civilian life, he joined the United States Postal Service.
He met Ruth V. Mewborn, a nurse at Rex Hospital, and they married in 1957.
Upon his retirement, he stayed active by working at Ephesus Baptist Church, volunteering with the N.C. Train Host Association, joining American Legion Cary Post 67, and growing tomatoes in his home garden.
He is predeceased by his spouse of 60 years, Ruth M. Clifton, his parents, his brother, Robert Lacy Clifton, and sisters, Ethel Gray Raymond and Dorothy Lassiter.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley A. Clifton and son, Edwin E. Clifton, Jr., granddaughter Kelsie (Alex) Prunka and great grandchildren Jacqueline, Eleanor, George, and Helen Prunka. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
Graveside service will be held at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, November 14th, 2025 at 2:00 PM.
