Elsie Louise (Cloud) McAvoy

Elsie Louise (Cloud) McAvoy, age 87, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at her home in Cary, North Carolina . Elsie was born January 28, 1935 in Fort Madison, Iowa to the late William and Madeline (Grant) Cloud.

Elsie will be remembered for many things, above all she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She touched many lives throughout her career as a Lifelong teacher and educator. In the Chicago area, she specialized in Reading and English as well as teaching all levels from elementary to college post-graduate classes. She was also very active in the P.E.O. Philanthropic Educational Organization supporting women through scholarships, motivating women to achieve their highest potential. An accomplished pianist, Elsie volunteered her talents performing for school, church, and community events, as well as being a member of the 6 Piano Touring Ensemble. Elsie was also a Longtime member and volunteer of the United Methodist Church of Glenview IL and the Desert Palms Presbyterian Church of Sun City West AZ.

On September 1,1956 Elsie married her loving husband, Gary Paul McAvoy, and they remained married for 65 wonderful years.

Elsie is survived by her husband Gary, Sons: Alan (Suzanne) and Brian (Donna) McAvoy, Grandchildren: Catherine (Josh), Brian, Amanda, and Lucas McAvoy.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her brother, Lee Cloud.
