

Erma was born in Raleigh on April 16, 1926 to the late Horace Gales Herndon and Edith Isabella Nowell Edwards, Sr.
Erma was a graduate of Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh and her early working career was with Security National Bank and North Carolina National Bank in Raleigh.
Erma was a charter member of Westover United Methodist Church in Raleigh and devoted herself to working in many areas of the life and missions of the Church.
Erma was preceeded in death by her beloved “CC”, husband of 63 years, Cecil Ross Stancil; her brother Horace G.H. Edwards, Jr.; and nephew, Gales Edwards, all of Raleigh.
Surviving are one daughter, Jeanne Gail Stancil, and her husband Charles L. Mullen of Raleigh; grandchildren, James Edward Armstrong, Jr. and wife Desiree of Raleigh; Matthew Ross Armstrong and wife Monica of Kissimmee, FL; great grandchildren, Morgan, Josh, and Evie Armstrong all of Raleigh; one niece, Sibyl Hendley of Fairview; and beloved cousins across North Carolina.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Westover United Methodist Church, 300 Powell Drive, Raleigh, NC. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.
