Eunice was born on February 11, 1926 in Leaksville, NC to the late Fred D. Smith and Hattie Carter Smith.
Eunice was a member of the Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, where she was active in the adult choir and children’s programs until the early 1980’s.
Eunice was unique, combining many blessings in a small package. She was a Skilled homemaker and seamstress, an experienced traveler, and an excellent cook (known for her angel biscuits, Brunswick stew, and chocolate pie, among many others). She loved her family unconditionally and demonstrated that love in her every word and deed. Her house was always open to all, and she earned many adopted children through the years—truly an embodiment of the old saying “To know her is to love
her.” She was also a gifted storyteller, lifting hearts through her humorous and inspirational readings, recitations, and jokes at functions and gatherings. She will be remembered by her many family members and friends for her infectious smile, her loving nature, her strong and feisty spirit, and her
unshakeable faith in God.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Percy Herman Shreve. Survivors include daughters Donna Shreve Strickland (Ralph) and Susan Shreve Watkins (Gary);
sister Ruby Smith Hinson and brother-in-law Thomas Eugene Shreve; sister-in-law Barbara Hopkins Smith; grandchildren Ralph Strickland, Jr. (Stephanie), David Strickland (Bridgett), Bettina Morgan (Daniel), Wayne Watkins (Bethany) and Denise Wynne (Johnny). Eight great-grandchildren, Brian Strickland, Brianna Strickland, Brison Strickland, Preston Watkins, Mary Beth Morgan, Landon Watkins, Joshua Strickland and Christopher Morgan. Eunice leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews,
