

Felton Leo Hastings passed away on February 25, 2026 at WakeMed Cary Hospital. He was born to Leroy and Mary Hastings on January 15, 1938 in Port Arthur, Texas and spent most of his youth living in Foley, Alabama.
Felton was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Deletha Hopewell.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of 65 years and his special Scottish Terrier Madi, as well as caring extended family, Sister-in-law, Shirley, Brother-in-law Ken (Virginia) and special nieces and nephews.
Felton graduated from Auburn University in 1960. After graduation he moved to North Carolina and enrolled at North Carolina State University and earned a Ph.D. in Entomology in 1967. Upon graduation he worked for the USDA.
Forest Service as a Research Entomologist, where he retired after 22 years. In 1991 he joined North Carolina State University as a adjunct Professor of Entomology and spent several more years working in research.
Felton enjoyed playing golf, monthly poker games with his friends and his annual fishing trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
