Floyd Austin Chastain

Floyd Austin Chastain, 88, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on 26 September 2022. He was born to parents Luther Earl Chastain and Edith Wallace Chastain, on 7 August 1934 in Cherokee County, North Carolina. Floyd is survived by three daughters: Gail Freeman, Pamela Chastain and Bobby Chastain and one granddaughter, Heather Freeman. Evelyn, his wife of 66 years, preceded him on 17 July 2020. Floyd was a special gift from God. His unwavering faith was his foundation. He was a caring, loving husband, father, and grandfather. While he may come across gruff at times, he carried one of the biggest, sweetest hearts anyone could have. He was there for us no matter the issue: change a flat tire or a car battery, drying and brushing our hair, showing us how to bait a fishing hook or swing a golf club, pull April Fool pranks, advice on how to deal with adult life and death issues, how to be independent while being compassionate; be responsible while enjoying life; always understand and respect others; and the list goes on and on. Floyd loved to travel, golf, fish, garden, and to whip up fresh baked cornbread with a side of pinto beans and a glass of cold milk. His love of family, strength, and wisdom will continue to guide us throughout our lives. God took the strength of a mountain & the majesty of a tree. The warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea. The generous soul of nature & the comforting arm of night. The wisdom of the ages and the power of the eagle’s flight, The joy of a morning in spring & the faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity & the depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it – ‘dad!’ Funeral service scheduled for September 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at South Hills Baptist Church, 6400 Holly Springs Road, Raleigh, NC 27606.Graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Montlawn Cemetery, Raleigh, NC.
