

Frances was a native of Wake County and was born the only daughter to Thomas and Lizzie Horton of Fuquay Varina. She was a graduate of Fuquay Springs High School, Class of 1954. In her younger years she was a devoted member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she was married to James Harold Christmas in 1959. Together she and her husband made their home in the Swift Creek Community and joined Swift Creek Baptist Church. Frances served as Sunday School teacher, Children’s Choir Leader, served on many committees and boards and was among the first lady Deacons of the church.
In 1965 she founded Christmas Day Care, a licensed daycare in North Carolina. Through the years, she cared for and nurtured many children and parents and was affectionately known as “Aunt Frances”, “Fran Fran” and “Mammie”. She lovingly cared for more than 2 generations of children.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother, Glenn Horton.
She is survived by her children, Harriett Christmas Elder of Raleigh and James Harold Christmas, Jr. of Raleigh. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who were the joys of her life, Katie Elder and her boyfriend, Austin Bagwell, Will Elder, Amber Christmas and Alex Christmas. She is also survived by her younger brother, Ronnie Horton, of High Point, NC, her aunt, Ruth Mae Johnson, of Fuquay Varina and her uncle, Norman Horton, of Durham, NC. She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted, on Thursday, March 8th 2012 at 2pm at Swift Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Maynard Road in Cary, NC on Wednesday, March 7th from 6pm to 9pm.
Flowers will be accepted; those who desire may direct memorials to Swift Creek Baptist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund or to Hospice of Wake County. The family wishes to thank Dr. William Berry and Allison Casey of Cancer Center of NC, Accessible Home Health of Mid Carolina and the many volunteers from her church family for the excellent care and love shown to our mother.
