Franklin R. Alender

Gunnery Sergeant Franklin Rubert Alender, known to friends as “Gunny” passed away November 5, 2011 at the age of 74 years at the Veterans Hospital in Durham.

Born in Owensboro, KY on Feb. 3, 1937, he retired from the US Marine Corps in 1973.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. & Marie A. Alender, 6 Brothers and 2 Sisters. He leaves behind to cherish memories: Master Sergeant Thomas & Susan Baron, 2 Daughters and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 9, at 6:00p.m. through 8:00p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd Cary.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Brown Wynne at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at noon at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 310 Murchison Road, Spring Hill, NC.

Memorial donations in memory of Gunny can be made to the VFW Post 7383, 522 Reedy Creek Road, Cary NC 27513.

I am very saddened to hear of Mr. Frank's passing...Often I have been delighted in seeing Mr. Frank at Harrison's in Cary, sharing a laugh, a Scooby Doo, and making memories. I will always remember his pride in the Marine Corp....I will miss him dearly...What a great man...RIP Mr. Frank....
