Frederick “Fred” Daniel Weeden III, of Raleigh, passed away on June 13 after an admirable battle with cancer. Fred was born on March 26,1949 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Frederick Daniel Weeden Jr. and Edith Overton. He attended NC State University and was a Vietnam Era Veteran of the United States Army. Fred worked at RK&K Engineering for 30 years before retiring in 2017.
Fred never met a stranger and charmed everyone he knew with his unrivaled wit. It was this charm and wit that won over his wife of 40 years, Clara Hicks Weeden. Fred was a proud father to Heather Weeden Moore and her husband Kevin; and Sarah Weeden and her fiancé Lee Rambo. He was also a doting PaPa to his granddaughter, Evelyn Moore.
Fred lived his life to the fullest. From annual camping trips at Jordan Lake to helicopter tours of Alaska. From dancing to beach music in the living room to attending Broadway shows. From building fires on Sunday mornings to being the brightest house in the neighborhood during Christmas. No matter how simple or elaborate the activity, Fred made everything memorable.
Fred is survived by his father Fred (Becky) Weeden Jr., his brother Jim (Debbie) Weeden, his sister Dani (Neil) Raymer, his sisters-in-law Laura Carlyle, Rueleen Kapsch, Dorothy (Ed) Carter, Lydia (Dennis) McCollum, Brenda (Hugh) Brown, his brother-in-law Dan (Scarlette) Hicks, and his many nephews and nieces who loved their “Crazy Uncle Fred.”
A special thanks to Dr. Michael Spiritos and his team for their dedication to Fred.
Fred will be memorialized through stories and laughter at his home, on June 30th from 2-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute and to always remember Fred as “bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, quick witted and good looking.”
