Gary Buer, 72, passed away on March 31, 2025, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born July 20, 1952, in Mount Vernon, NY, to Arne and Anita (Pedersen) Buer, and grew up in West Nyack, NY. After graduating from Rochester Institute of Technology, he began his career with IBM, working in New York City, White Plains, NY, Boca Raton, FL, and Raleigh, NC.
An avid golfer, he loved playing on the course with his many friends throughout the years. Gary was a wonderful father who enjoyed playing baseball with his sons and instilled in them his love of the New York Yankees. He also took the family to countless Miami Hurricanes, NC State Wolfpack (tailgates!), and Carolina Hurricanes games. For many years, the Buer family hosted a Kentucky Derby party in Gary’s beloved “Gutter Lounge.” Gary had a big, infectious laugh that his neighbors and friends will not soon forget.
Gary is survived by his wife of 40+ years, Maggie Smith Buer; children, Karl Buer (Marguerite) of Knightdale, NC, and Darren Buer (Jessica) of Indian Land, SC; and four sweet grandchildren whom he absolutely adored. He is also survived by numerous brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Wicks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to www.parkinsonassociation.org in honor of Gary.
There will be a reception for friends on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brown Wynne of Cary, 200 SE Maynard Road. Memorial Tributes and messages of sympathy can be left by clicking the "Add a Memory" box below. Brown Wynne of Cary is honored to serve the Buer family.
