

Born June 12, 1928 to Elmon and Rosa Lusk, in Salem, S.C., the eldest of 11 children, she attended the Tamassee, S.C. Daughters of the American Revolution High School. Following graduation she moved to Washington, D.C. to work in the D.A.R. headquarters.
She first met her husband Jack in 1943 when her family moved to an adjacent farm. He returned from World War II in 1946, went to D.C. to visit and stayed 23 years. They were married in Takoma Park, Maryland 65 years ago on April 15, 1947. In 1969, Jack was transferred to Asheville, N.C. where they resided until his retirement in 1980. While residing in Asheville, she was granted a N.C. Real Estate Broker’s license and pursued that career.
She enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially gardening and fishing. Genny actively served in the Baptist churches she attended in Maryland and North Carolina, and at the time of passing was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church.
Genny is survived by her husband Jack and their four children, Janice Rather and husband John of Neenah, Wisconsin, Edward Bryson and wife Idonna of Knoxville, Tennessee, Paul Bryson and wife Lisa Wallace of Raleigh and Wanda Wells and husband Joe of Raleigh; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hardy, John Rather II, Cody Bryson, Aaron and Stuart Wells; great grandchildren Caleb and Chase Hardy; brothers Howard Lusk and Bob Lusk, sisters Virginia Fortson and Eloise Lusk.
The family extends their appreciation to her faithful caregiver Kim Ryan from Right at Home Health Services, and Hospice of Wake County.
The family will receive friends March 6th from 6pm to 8pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary. Funeral services will be conducted at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 9300 Penny Road, Raleigh March 7th at 11am with Dr. David Vess presiding.
Condolences may be expressed by a contribution to the Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Alzheimer’s Association of N.C. or Hospice of Wake County.
