George and Shirley Stella Baird

George Baird, 89, passed away in 2023. His wife, Shirley Baird, 93, passed away in 2026. Although they passed away more than three years apart, their family will gather for one memorial service to celebrate both of their lives.

George was born and raised in Staten Island, New York, and Shirley was from Cincinnati, Ohio. They were married in Rochester, New York, in 1977. Together they raised four children and enjoyed eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Family was always important to them, and they were consistently there for their children through all of life's ups and downs.

Shirley and George’s home was a place where family and friends could always count on a good meal and a warm welcome. Their Goldendoodle, Sam, was also a much-loved member of the family.

George had a long career as an executive with Eastman Kodak Company. His work took him and Shirley to London for several years, giving them the opportunity to experience life in another

country and travel extensively throughout Europe. They enjoyed exploring new places and made many lasting memories during those years.

George was kind, generous, and dependable. He was thoughtful, empathetic, and had a big heart. He made friends wherever he went and became known as "Mr. George" at some of the restaurants and libraries he frequented. George was a mentor and role model to his family, their friends, and many of his coworkers. He was someone people could turn to for advice and perspective.

Shirley was a successful realtor. She was young at heart, creative, and resourceful. She loved music and dancing, cooking, sewing and crafts, and working on home improvement projects. She was always up for an adventure, and enjoyed skiing, camping, and fishing. Shirley was outgoing, energetic, and often the life of the party.

George and Shirley had different personalities, and they made a great team. George brought wisdom, humor, and steadiness to their family, while Shirley brought energy, creativity, and plenty of fun. Together they built a life that included family, careers, travel, friends, and many shared adventures.

They will be remembered by their family, as well as by the many friends and colleagues whose lives they touched. Their family is grateful for the years they shared and for the example each set in their own way. George and Shirley will be deeply missed and remembered with great affection.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Shirley and her husband George, will be held 11am Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd., Cary, NC 27511. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
