He is survived by his son, George A. Sloan and wife, Mary of Franklin, TN; daughter, Connie Sloan Reed and husband, Russ of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, Terri S. Clark and husband, Bill of Coloma, MI, Dondra C. Burgess of Edmond, OK, Leigh Ann Sloan of Louisville, KY, Blair M. Reed and wife, Erica of Woodstock, IL, and Todd M. Reed and wife, Melissa of New Port Richey, FL; six great-grandchildren, Anna Bush, Brad Bush, Matthew Bush, Blake Burgess, Aiden Reed and Dillon Reed; sisters, Helen S. Nordan and Halolee S. Kirkman and husband, Robert; brother-in-law, C.Y. Jordan; and sister-in-law, Jennie Pegram.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Melba M. Sloan; father, George M. Sloan; mother, Margaret Rogers Sloan; brothers, Hugh Sloan and Paul Robert Sloan; and sisters, Mary S. Futrell and Estella Hoffman.
Buck was born in Apex, NC, October 9, 1917, spending most of his life in Wake County and residing in Cary, NC for over 60 years. He was a member of the Cary Auxiliary Police, active in the Lions Club and Little League Baseball.
During WWII, he proudly served in the US Navy aboard the Air Craft Carrier USS Essex. Buck was selected to represent Wake County WWII veterans in the Wall of Memories Memorial in Fayetteville, NC.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, NC from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 22, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, NC on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 11 am. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
