Gerald was born April 12, 1926, and was the son of Lewis Stockley and Beatrice Janes. He had two brothers, Eric Stockley and Frazer Stockley, who was his twin brother. Mr. Stockley served in Europe as a Postal Clerk in WW II and was honorably discharged in June of 1946.
Upon his return to Brooklyn, New York, he married his sweetheart, Mildred, in 1950 and they were married for 56 years. During the course of their marriage they had four children, Jimmy, Karen, Peter, and Melissa. During this time, he attended New York College of Technology and earned an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management. The family moved to Cary in 1977, where he resided until his death.
Over the course of his career, he served as a Job Superintendent for the construction of multiple major buildings in New York and North Carolina. Some of his projects include construction at Rikers Island and Tomkins Houses as well as the North Carolina Museum of Art and the North Carolina Museum of History.
Survivors include his four children, James Kenneth Stockley of Raleigh, Karen Stockley Geringer (Steven Cary Geringer) of Raleigh, Peter Douglas Stockley of Raleigh, and Melissa Stockley Jones (Craig Thomas Jones) of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Adam Pennell Geringer of Raleigh, Trent Peter Stockley of Raleigh, and Seth Rodney Stockley of Raleigh.
A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life honoring Mr. Stockley will be held later this year for family and friends.
