Born April 19, 1938, in Flint, Michigan, he was the son of the late Harold Oscar Walls and Fernette Emmalena Frehse Walls. Glen joined an older son, Karl Douglas Walls, and they became “The Four Walls” family.
Glen grew up living on Lake Ponemah in Fenton, Michigan. He started school in a three-room schoolhouse. After graduation from Fenton High in 1955 he attended Flint Junior College (later named University of Michigan – Flint) for a year before joining the Navy. He was first assigned to Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago and was last stationed in San Diego, California. He began training in electronics with the Navy.
He began working at Electro Instruments in San Diego, then transferring to Chicago, Illinois, and later to Cleveland, Ohio. Glen married Donna Kay Haney on August 2, 1963, in Wyandotte, Michigan (her hometown). They had three daughters: Joni, Lisa, and Beth. He was an active member of the West Side Church of Christ in Cleveland, where he served as a deacon.
After returning to college at Cuyahoga Community College and Cleveland State University, he began working for IBM, transferring to Cary, North Carolina, in 1977. Cary became the family’s hometown. Glen and Donna were active members of the Cary Church of Christ, where Glen served as a deacon, and later the Brooks Avenue Church of Christ. He loved music and was skilled at singing. He played many instruments, including clarinet, oboe, flute, ukulele, guitar, piano, and violin. He had perfect pitch, and he could play “The Entertainer” from memory. Over the years he performed in choruses and quartets, and often led singing at church.
Glen retired from IBM in 1993 after 30 years as a Customer Service Engineer. He then earned his Real Estate broker license, selling and managing property (with Howard Perry and Walston) for many years. He served on the board of numerous vacation properties, and always enjoyed being around people. Glen and Donna loved to travel, seeing God’s handiwork and meeting people around the world. They were able to travel to all fifty states and more than 25 countries, visiting Greece as recently as December of 2021.
Glen is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna; daughters Joni (Matt) Horn of Cary, North Carolina, Lisa “L” Walls of Minsk, Belarus, and Beth (Stephen) Walls Mathis of Ruckersville, Virginia; grandchildren Sarah (Noah Parks), Bryan, Carly, and Aimee of Ruckersville; his brother Karl Walls of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
