Gloria June Overdier

June 16, 1936 – April 28, 2023
IN THE CARE OF

Brown-Wynne Funeral Home

Gloria June (Peck) Overdier, age 86, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023. Gloria was born June 16, 1936 to George and Agnes (Nelson) Peck, in Racine, Wisconsin.

As luck would have it, Gloria Peck found her seat in Chemistry class at the University of Wisconsin, next to Donald Overdier. On June 21st, 1958, after graduating from UW-Madison, they married and relocated to Minnesota. They lived and raised their family in Burnsville, Minnesota.

Gloria and Donald considered relocating to North Carolina where their daughters were living and a first grandchild was on the way. Gloria decided to come to the Raleigh area to look at houses and contacted Donald to let him know that she had purchased a home! In 1997 they relocated to that home in Cary, North Carolina.

Gloria worked as a substitute math teacher, in real estate, and then she went on to pursue a career with H&R Block. She was a Master Tax Preparer and Enrolled Agent, working at H&R Block for over 25 years.

One of Gloria’s passions was travelling. She travelled with Donald (and often children, grandchildren and friends). She enjoyed hundreds of trips exploring the United States and many international destinations. Northern Italy was her favorite place to visit. Gloria biked through Denmark, kayaked in the Low Country of South Carolina, visited the Copper Canyon by train, explored many wineries, crossed the street on the "red man" in London, and she even went horseback riding in her late 70’s. Gloria was always planning for new adventures and ready to travel at any time. She especially loved the ocean and the annual trip to Duck, North Carolina (OBX) with family.

Gloria was an avid reader and an excellent cook, always trying new recipes. She enjoyed gardening and was very talented with her needlework. Gloria loved puzzles, playing cards and games. She never turned down an opportunity to play Phase 10, Jenga, or Aggravation with her grandchildren. Gloria also loved animals, especially Shelties, having owned several over the years.

Above all, Gloria loved her family. She was a caring and compassionate mother and a devoted wife.

Gloria is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald F. Overdier of Cary; her son David Overdier (Janice) of Cary; daughters Susan Sager (Scott) of Raleigh and Kathryn Williams of Wendell; grandchildren Sydney, Riley and Reid Sager; Alexander and Kate Williams; step-granddaughter Catharine Taylor (Bryan) of Wake Forest; step-great-grandson Turner Taylor; and her special Wisconsin/Michigan cousins: The Pfeiffer, Deibert, and Overdier families. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother George Peck, Jr.

Special thanks to those that took care of Gloria as she declined, especially Anna from Homewatch CareGivers, dear family friend Bonnie Millis, and Bella. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Lilburn, GA 30047. https://www.lbda.org/donors/ or Carolina Tiger Rescue 1940 Hanks Chapel Rd, Pittsboro, NC 27312. https://carolinatigerrescue.org

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
