

She was born February 13, 1915 in Bolingbroke, GA to Mary Ellen Hill Searcy and Henry Walton Searcy. She was a graduate of Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, GA. Mrs. Shi was a member of First United Methodist Church in Gastonia, NC where she once taught Sunday school and was Vice President of U.M.W. Throughout her life she was involved in many organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Town and Country Garden Club, and several bridge clubs. She also enjoyed serving as a Den Mother in Scouts and was a superb cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Robert Shi Jr.; daughter, Mary Ellen Shi Cain and son, Samuel Robert Shi III.
She is survived by her daughter, Henrietta Shi Hamilton of Ft. Pierce, FL; daughter-in-law, Patsy Hammet Shi of Cary, NC; son-in-law, John Walter Cain Jr. of Matthews, NC; 8 grandchildren: Samuel Robert Shi IV, Melanie Gay Shi, Deborah Cain Webb, John Walter “Trey” Cain III, Kimberly Hamilton Smith, Henrietta Hamilton Renninger, Murray McKinnon Hamilton and Mary-Julia Hamilton Camplin; and 15 great grandchildren: Samuel Robert Shi V, Caroline Estelle Shi, Jacob Alexander Shi, John Taylor Webb, Hunter Matthew Webb, Thomas Alexander Smith, Andrew Robert Smith, Anna Elizabeth Smith, Jonathan Charles Renninger, Jacob Christian Renninger, Megan McKinnon Hamilton, Samuel Glenn Hamilton, Mason Scott Hamilton, Kayla Lynn Camplin and Emily MacKenzie Camplin.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.
