Hope Antonia Miralles Reeves, 91, died December 6, 2018 at Brittany Place Health Center of the Searstone Retirement Community of Cary, NC, where she had lived since June 2014, after a long, brave struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Before moving to Cary, she had lived in Valley Cottage, NY since 1955.
Born and raised in New York City, Hope graduated from Washington Irving High School where she edited the school newspaper, Wagner College School of Nursing, Wagner College, with a Bachelor of Science, cum laude in Nursing, and Montclair College with a Master of Arts in Education and Administration.
Hope practiced nursing at French Hospital in New York City and Nyack Hospital in Nyack, NY for several years before and after giving birth to three sons. She then began a career in Education and taught Practical Nursing for 29 years at Rockland County, New York Board of Cooperative Services in West Nyack, NY. She loved teaching and was proud of her many graduates.
Hope had been a member of the Sunday school, choir, and Lutheran League at the Lutheran Church of our Savior’s Atonement in New York City, and a member of the choir and Sunday school nurse at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River, NY.
Hope loved to hike in the parks and mountains in and around Rockland County with the Historical Hikers, and swim in her backyard pool. She spent many hours working in her gardens, and enjoyed many years of membership in the Tappan Zee and Forest Glen Garden Clubs. She and her husband toured the western United States and Canada, and enjoyed several trips to Europe.
After retirement, they took sailing lessons, and Hope took golf lessons and joined her husband in several years of golfing together. Hope also took lessons in watercolor painting and achieved great pleasure from it, while also exhibiting wonderful talent. Her family has many examples of her work, and she also participated in exhibitions with her art class.
Hope leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Henry (Hank); 3 sons, Paul, Richard, and Robert; daughters-in-law, Terry and Lynn; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-11:45am with a service following at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. Burial will be at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brittany Place for 4 1/2 years of tender loving care and Heartland Hospice for their caring and guidance. They would also like to thank the many people who cared for Hope at home in Valley Cottage.
