

Irene Frances Robinson, 84, died Monday, November 14, 2011 after an extended illness. She was born July 25, 1926 to the late Stuart and Norma (Griffiths) King in Pittsburgh, PA. A graduate of Pennsylvania State College, school of journalism, she pursued a career in journalism until she married Richard S. Robinson and raised three daughters.
Irene was very active in the Pittsburgh community. She was a Girl Scout leader, member of Pittsburgh Council of International Visitors and active in her church. She moved to NC in 1979 and loved traveling with her husband and was an avid gardener. In later years she moved to Glenaire Retirement Community and was a member of various committees.
Her family was always the light of her life. We will miss her wisdom and advice.
Irene is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard S. Robinson of Cary, NC; three daughters, Karen Turner of Richmond, VA, Janice Luttner and husband, Jack of New Bern, NC, Lynette Pittman and husband Adam of Cary, NC; five grandchildren, Erin Corson and husband, Chris, Scott Ridenour, Andrew Luttner, Allison Pittari and husband, John, Brent Turner; five great-grandchildren, Robbie, Aleena, Ryan, Evan and Jack and one on the way.
A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2011 at Glenaire Retirement Center. Inurnment will be private at Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
