Jacquelyn (“Jackie”) Jones Cobb, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on June 15th at the age of 90. She had been a longtime resident of the Spring Arbor assisted living facility in Cary, North Carolina.
Born in Chauncey, Georgia on February 8, 1936 to P.C. (“Jack’) Jones and Julia Willis, Jackie moved at a young age with her family to College Park, Georgia. She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and earned a B.B.A. degree. After working for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, she married John Cobb and moved to Charlotte where she raised her family and lived for over 40 years.
Jackie loved going to the movies and passed that interest on to her sons. One of her earliest memories was attending the parade in Atlanta (atop her father’s shoulders) for the premiere of the film ‘Gone with the Wind’. She also enjoyed painting, cross-stitching and going to the flea market. Jackie was an active member of the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church for many years. However, Jackie’s biggest joy came from being a wonderful mother to her two sons.
Jackie always put the needs of others before her own. If you visited her home, she was sure to offer you some sweet tea, a homemade dessert or a delicious home-cooked meal of comfort food. She was the epitome of a true southern lady.
Jackie is survived by her sons, John and Jay; daughter-in-law Alison; and grandchildren, Janet and Ava.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/.
