He is survived by his twin sister, Jean Ellis (Richard); 3 daughters, Tracy Black (Gordon), Christina Kazakavage (James), and Penny Mariano; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Jeff, Austin, Laura, Sarah, and Jennifer; and 7 great grandchildren, Alexsa, Vienna, Jake, Ella, Kaedyn, McKenna, and Callen. He also leaves his best friend, Chewy, his dog.
Special thanks to niece, Susan, and Buzz Long, and nephew, Randy, and Tammy Ellis, for their loving care.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who passed away exactly 2 years prior, on September 29, 2012; brother, Richard, and grandson, TSgt Adam Ginett.
Mr. Haslam served in the US Marine Corps and continued the tradition of “once a Marine, always a Marine.” He was a life member of Marine Corps League Tar Heel Detachment and National Detachment. In 1999, he co-founded the Capital City Young Marines. In 2006, he was given the distinctive Legion of Honor Award by the Chapel of the Four Chaplains.
In his lifetime, he was a consummate cowboy and horseman, newspaper publisher, salesman extraordinaire, landscape engineer, webmaster, and the best storyteller EVER.
The family will receive friends starting at 2 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612. A memorial service will follow at 3 pm with military honors and interment in the Veteran Section of Raleigh Memorial Park.
