James Ray Krieger

May 27, 1948November 25, 2012

James R. Krieger, 64, of Cary, formerly of Atlanta, GA, passed away November 25, 2012 at Hospice of Wake County, after a four-year battle with colon cancer. James was born May 27, 1948 in Augusta, Georgia, to Frances McLarty and Robert L. Krieger, Sr. He grew up on the Eastern Shore of Virginia at Wallops Island and attended the University of Virginia, where he played football. James served briefly in US Air Force, before his medical discharge in 1968. He moved to Atlanta, GA in 1975 where he worked in sales for Kraft Power Company and Fuse-Weld, before starting his own business in 1984. James owned and operated a number of businesses in the diesel engine machine shop industry till 1997, when he sold his Atlanta operation and began a new career in real estate. He became a real estate broker and opened a residential real estate firm in Atlanta in 2003. His real estate firm grew to five offices in three states as he pursued opportunities in North Carolina and Virginia. James and his wife, Margaret relocated to Cary, NC, in 2007 to focus on his Triangle real estate activities. He enjoyed fishing (or at least drowning worms), any kind of card game, and almost any kind of music, from Rimsky-Korsakov to Pink Floyd to Miles Davis. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Margaret Horst, his son Stephen, and daughter Kathryn, all of Cary, NC; and six siblings: older brother Robert L. Krieger, Jr. (Bonnie), Hampton, VA; younger sister Karen Krieger, Edenton, NC; younger brothers William (Carol), Yorktown, VA, John (Patricia), Avon, PA and Richard (Linda), Snow Hill, MD; and younger sister Lynn Krieger Hines (Mitchell), Greenbackville, VA; four nephews and three nieces, and two grand-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 3, 2012 at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Rd, Cary, NC 27513. Burial will follow the service at Wake Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2-4 pm Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Jim’s relatives, friends and colleagues arrange for a colonoscopy for themselves and their loved ones, and if possible, donate to Fight Colorectal Cancer at https://secure.commonground.convio.com/fightcrc/general/ to support research toward a cure for colorectal cancer. Dear Karen and the Krieger family: so truly sorry to read of Jimmy's passing. I smiled in remembrance of Pam's earlier posting. Jimmy was indeed always the top salesman at the AHS magazine campaign. We celebrate a life well lived. The Krieger family will always be an institution here on the Eastern Shore...we share your loss.

Our sympathies to Jimmy's wife and family on his passing. It was a shock to read in the paper today of his long fought battle loss. Heaven has gained a comical "Angel" (That's how we remember him).

Jim gave me my first chance at selling real estate and I learned a heck of a lot from him. I will never forget his quick and witty personality. Thanks Jim, for all that you gave me.

My condolences to the Krieger family.
