I and my son, Anish, have close relationship with Jim. We both played several games with Jim in several tournments and also at his home. Every game we played, Jim had come up with brilliant moves to scare us. I really learned a lot from Jim, especially how a knight can be moved to stop any attack. We had great time whenever we played at his home as we had great hospitality from his wife, wonderful coffe, dinner, and snacks available through out our games at his home. Jim, you are a true Chess lover!!! We are going to miss you so much!!! Your memories are going to last with me forever!!!

Jim and I played chess together in his home for several years. I miss the wonderful hospitality that he and Maryjac always offered. We went to several chess tournaments together including one on the east coast of North Carolina. On that trip we stop by one of his favorite barbecue restaurants that started right after World War II. He will be greatly missed and I wish that we could've had that one more chess game together. Perhaps we will again someday.

Jim was a beloved member of the Raleigh Tournament Chess Club in North Carolina. Always a gentleman, Jim won with class, but loss with even more class...... He would always congratulate his opponents on their victories with a big sincere smile his face. One of his great joys in chess was to volunteer for our state scholastic championships where he served as a scorekeeper and helped young students with the recording of their games. Those of us in the chess community will greatly miss him as he and Maryjac were both very kind to us.

Jim was a close member of the Lineberger clan for many years & we will all miss him. Although I was not able to attend our latest (37th) family reunion, Jim did & all said he thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone, despite the personal struggle. We will miss all of his side of the family!

Dear Cousin Jimmy, you will be missed so much, as a Minister, a leader,  a loving cousin, as a friend, confidant,  father, grandfather,   author, chef  and historian....   I know you are rejoicing,   and I know we should be rejoicing for you...   but you are missed and we feel that big empty space.....  You are loved...   You will be remembered....  and we w ill see you again, one day, when that Circle gathers again...   Your Cousin Carolyn Gable Basinger and family...
