

James was born in Rutherfordton, NC, on October 13, 1950, the son of the late Roy G. Morgan and Annie Sue Morgan. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Wilson and sister-in-law Toni Morgan.
James spent his entire childhood in the mountains of rural North Carolina. Through his mountain adventures and southern family principals he learned the value of hard work, serving God and being fearless in all things.
James was a graduate of Western Carolina University and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity in which he maintained a strong bond of brotherhood throughout his life. In 1972 he began a dedicated lifelong career with Citigroup, formerly Commercial Credit. James possessed a remarkable work ethic and continued his commitment to the company until his retirement in 2016 as a district manager.
James was a faithful member of White Plains United Methodist Church for 38 years where he served in many roles including Sunday school leader, chairman for numerous committees, shuttle bus driver, usher and greeter. James also lived his faith and served his community through his membership in the Gideons International Association where he passionately pursued his calling to lead others to Christ.
James was a loving and incredibly dedicated family man. He adored his wife, was a supportive father and was actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren. James thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all of his relatives, both near and far, as often as possible. His family was truly his greatest joy. James was a friend to many and his strength, wit and humor were a gift to those who knew him.
James lived his life fully enjoying numerous hobbies and passions including duke basketball, classic car restoration and shows, golf and tennis, scuba diving, horseshoes, coaching his sons in little league sports, yard sale bargain hunting, caring for his pet parrots, summertime excursions with his grandchildren and so much more. He truly made the best of all life offered to him.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Lera Davis Morgan; sons Slater Morgan and wife Ashley, Davis Morgan and wife Katie; grandson Jake, granddaughters Sofie and Ruby; sister Kay Dukes and husband Larry; brother Norman Morgan, brother-in-law Ray Wilson, brother-in-law Sam Davis and wife Melonie, brother-in-law Tim Davis and wife Gayle, and numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at White Plains United Methodist Church, 313 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC.
