Alec was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 6, 1964, but spent most of his childhood growing up near the orange groves in Winter Park, Florida. He graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems. His passion for building computer systems and developing software analytics and workflow solutions led him to become a successful senior solutions architect, consultant and entrepreneur. Having grown up near the ocean, Alec’s favorite spot on earth was the beach. Whether jumping waves, sailing or wind surfing, Alec thoroughly enjoyed being in or near the water. Alec had many hobbies, including motorcycle riding and collecting power tools which he used to design and build a standing flower bed, two storage sheds, a swing set and a toy box for his daughters. Armed with a plethora of cookbooks and cooking accessories, Alec was also an excellent chef and BBQ enthusiast with the innate ability to put this and that into a pot or a dry rub mix and cook up a masterful dish, ribs being his most soughtafter delicacy.
Alec was an active member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary, NC for many years, most recently serving as a driver for the blind ministry. He was known to many in the congregation as the “baby whisperer,” able to calm anxious babies and sway them to sleep during worship. In the past few years, Alec became an honorary member of the Garner Church of God where he used his talents to help the young congregation build their computer system.
Alec is survived by his father, Jan Epp Oesterling of Woodbridge, VA; mother, Anne Greene Price of Murfreesboro, TN; and former spouse, Deborah H. Oesterling, and daughters, Abigail Anne Oesterling and Jaime Leigh Oesterling of Raleigh, NC.
The family will hold a private committal service in the columbarium of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Love Fund, Resurrection Lutheran Church, 100 W Lochmere Drive, Cary, NC 27518.
Peace I leave you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27
