

Jane Elizabeth Miller Bartles, 89, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on May 5th, surrounded by her immediate family. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jane was born on February 22, 1937, in Stony Point, North Carolina. She married Walter Charles “Buddy” Bartles, and after a brief time in Statesville, they made their home in Cary, where they lovingly raised their two children.
A devoted and nurturing mother, Jane was known for her strong work ethic, vibrant spirit, and commitment to living by the “Golden Rule.” She was an avid bowler and softball player, and a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary.
Jane found great joy in traveling, especially to tropical destinations, and treasured time spent at the beach. Before retiring, she worked as a bookkeeper for the supermarkets, Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) and The Kroger Company.
She took great pride in caring for her yard and was especially known for her beautifully maintained lawn and garden. Jane also had a deep love for animals, particularly her cherished pets - Milo, her black Labrador, and Baby, her white Persian cat. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sylvester Miller, and Rose Lee Witherspoon Miller, as well as eight siblings.
Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Walter Charles “Buddy” Bartles of Cary; her daughter, Cindy Bartles Nowell of Cary; her son, Charles Craig Bartles and his wife, Karen, of Burlington, NC; her grandchildren, Joshua Nowell and his wife, Yolanda, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Chelsey Elizabeth Bartles Austin and her husband, Brett, of Charlotte, NC, and Mallory Lynne Bartles and Tess (English Cream Retriever) of Raleigh, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Adyn, Leyah, and Carter, all of Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Funeral arrangements for the Bartles family have been entrusted to Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC. Visitation will be held at Brown-Wynne on May 11th at 11:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 12:30 p.m. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC.
