Jane Anne Bishop, 94, of Cary, North Carolina died peacefully at home on September 13th, 2026. Jane was born in Groveport, Ohio on November 25, 1931 to Wilmer King and Ruth King (nee Raver), in a farming community and she was one of eight children.
Jane graduated from Frankfort High School in 1949. Immediately after high school Jane went to work in town at a department store.
Jane met her husband, Charles Edward Bishop, through friends and family. She accepted Charles’ marriage proposal through the mail and they were married on October 19, 1954. Jane and Charles moved to Mt. Holly, New Jersey where Charles went to work in Philadelphia and Jane worked at a local hospital. They had 3 daughters, Camille Fay Bishop born in 1956, Karen Lee Fisher born in 1958 and Deborah Lynn Bishop born in 1961. As a family they wanted new adventures and during the 60’s the South was growing and many areas in the North were stagnant. Jane and Family packed up the station wagon and drove all day and night to Florida for a better life where they raised their girls. While Charles worked in the aircraft and aerospace industry, Jane’s entire career was in retail primarily department stores, including Belk and Walmart. She loved working retail and taking care of her customers. She worked well with all her colleagues including young people. Jane enjoyed working with young people.
Jane and Family moved several times in Florida and moved to North Carolina, Texas, Kansas and Louisiana. When Jane and Charles retired they moved back to Florida, settling in a retirement community in Frostproof, Florida. Even in retirement both Jane and Charles worked part time.
After Charles died in 2010, Jane moved to Cary, North Carolina and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Cary. She was a volunteer at the church for many years and was a faithful member. Jane was a woman of deep faith, never wavering in her beliefs. Every year the church sponsored a Mother’s Day event and all of her daughters attended one year, which made her very happy. When she could no longer attend church, she made sure to have church come to her. If you visited Jane on a Sunday, she was watching a church service on T.V. which was so uplifting for her. It kept her spirits up and continued to deepen her faith.
Jane was a kind person, with a very positive, upbeat outlook on life. She almost always had a smile on her face and was so happy when her daughters and her grandchildren came to visit. Jane was fortunate to have met some of her great grandchildren. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Bishop, who died in 2010, her brothers John King, Tom King, Arthur King, Jerry King and her younger sister Evelyn Mowbray. She is survived by her brother James King of Bluffton, South Carolina, sister Ruth King of Lancaster, Ohio, her brother-in-law Charles Mowbray of Groveport, Ohio; her three daughters and son-in-law: Camille of Raleigh, North Carolina, Karen and Norm of El Sobrante, California and Deborah of Boerne, Texas; grandchildren: Caleb Joshua Morales of Orlando, Florida, Tara Melissa Darilek and husband Ross Marshall Darilek of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas and Jane’s great grandchildren Deacon Hayes Darilek, Elliott Jane Darilek and Caden Lee Darilek as well as many nieces and nephews.
