Jean Laster Walker

Jean was a graduate of The University of Missouri, where she was a member of the ZTA Sorority. In the years that followed, she devoted herself with steady purpose to her family and to her work, serving as a homemaker and as a public-school math and special education teacher. In all she did, Jean brought a careful attentiveness and a gift for order—qualities that shaped both her home and her classroom with quiet excellence and enduring care.

She also found joy in pursuits that rewarded focus and precision. Jean was a competitive bridge and bingo player, and those who knew her recognized in these pastimes the same thoughtful, well-structured approach that characterized her life. Later in life, she pursued the sports of tennis and golf, which brought her much enjoyment during her retirement years.

Jean retired with her husband to Fredericksburg, Virginia where they lived for over 20 years. She then moved to Cary in 2021.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Blinn Walker, Sr.; son-in-law, Timothy Duffy; and daughter-in-law, Deanne Cooper Walker.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Walker Robb (Kevin), and Sharon Christine Crowther Duffy; sons, John Blinn Walker, Jr., David Fearing Walker (Katherine), and Robert Goold Walker (Stacie); eleven grandchildren, Amber Christine Robb, Ashleigh Mary Jean Robb, Christopher Crowther, Lynda Crowther Chaney, Heather Duffy, Danielle Duffy, Emily Anne Walker, John Stephen Walker, David (Tommy) Walker, Michael John Walker, and Meredith Noelle Foreman; and seven great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
