Jeanne Carol Young Runge, 93, died peacefully at her residence at Brookdale Chapel Hill on Sunday, June 14, 2020. She was born April 30, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late George Alexander Young, Jr. and Violet Tibball Young.
Jeanne relocated to Charlotte, NC, in 1949, and became an active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church where she participated in the music program, volunteered in the historical room, and served on long-range planning committees. Chautauqua, New York, was a special place to Jeanne. She particularly treasured the summers during her youth when she sang as a member of the opera chorus. Her love of music, theater, and the arts led her to work as the business manager for the Oratorio Singers and Charlotte Symphony.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Doris Young; three uncles, Harold, Milton, and John Young; her beloved Auntie, Lillian Tibball; and one grandson, Rusty Crawford. She was also preceded in death by her closest friend, Ida Skinner Weathers.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Runge Crawford (Russell) of Round Rock, TX, and Susan Runge Bost of Chapel Hill; five grandchildren, Rebecca Derr (Mike), Jeremy Forbis (Abby), Carl Crawford, Sarah Bost, and Eric Bost; and seven great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service to celebrate Jeanne’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sardis Presbyterian Church Music Program (http://sardis.org/) or to Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte (https://www.shepherdscharlotte.org/).
The family expresses their deep appreciation to Brookdale Chapel Hill and Heartland Hospice for their loving care of Jeanne.
