Joan Osborn Yaguda
April 22, 1930 – January 20, 2021
It is with great sadness that we lost the beacon of our lives. As her initials were JOY, it was appropriate that she was indeed the joy of our family and all that knew her.
Joan Pierson Osborn was born April 22,1930 in Albany, NY. She graduated from the Child’s Hospital School of Nursing and was working as a dental assistant where she met Bob who came in for an appointment. They were married for 65 wonderful years.
Joan spent much of her life in the service of others as a long-term volunteer at Saint Peter’s and Child’s Hospital in Albany. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends (especially at Thanksgiving), reading, playing bridge, and going to the oceans and the lakes. She and Bob spent many years at their Friends Lake cabin in New York relaxing and hosting happy hours on the deck or on the lake in Captain Bob’s pontoon boat with her dear Rogers Cottages crew. She had an infectious smile and quick wit.
She was the daughter of the late Howard and June Osborn of Albany New York and mother of the late Robin Yaguda.
Joan is survived by her husband Robert, son Jeffrey Yaguda, his wife Julianne and granddaughter Kathryn of Cary, NC; grandson Zachary Yaguda, his wife Keely and great grandchildren Ellie and Harrison of Portland, Oregon; grandson Andrew Yaguda of New York City; and close relatives with whom she deeply loved.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all that knew her. Due to covid restrictions there will be no service, instead a celebration of her life will be planned at a later date.

It only seems like yesterday when we moved into 74 Meadowland Street, Delmar NY, with a one year old and a one month old. From that first day in 1981 until now we were welcomed by our wonderful Yaguda neighbors, and friendship evolved into family.
Years forward, we had three more little ones who now have grown into five adults and with little ones of their own. Through that entire journey Joan and Bob have been a presence in our life, initially next door and at Friend's Lake, and more recently in North Carolina. To Bob, Jeff and all the Yagudas, rest assured Joan will be always in our hearts. From your Irish neighbors and to a wonderful lady, "Till we meet again".

Joan Yaguda was a lovely lady with poise and dignity who identified herself as a mover and doer and who saw ways to improve retirement life at Waltonwood-Cary.
She was keen and wise in many ways and had a demeanor that one quickly accepted. Joan made many friends and her husband Captain Bob were stalwarts among the residents here.
Joan was a fine lady who served her family and community well and God Almighty, the Great I Am, has quietly taken her to serve with our Great Healer, Jesus Christ. And her family and friends can take great comfort and peace in that, hallelujah.

Mrs. Yaguda (she was affectionately called "Lady") was a 2nd Mom to me. Half of my teen years were spent hanging out at the Yaguda home. Playing cards (poker) and sharing stories with Lady and Mr Yaguda brings back so many wonderful memories. I feel very blessed to have been loved, and picked on, by Lady as she made my childhood so memorable.

OUR MEMORIES AND FRIENDSHIP WITH JOAN AND BOB GO BACK 21 YEARS AGO. THEY WERE THE FIRST PEOPLE TO GREET US AT ROGERS AT FRIENDS LAKE. THEY CAME ARM IN ARM TO WELCOME US. I KNEW THEN WE HAD MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. WE WILL ALWAYS MISS OUR 4:00 DRINKS ON THEIR DECK. JOAN WAS A WONDERFUL FRIEND. SO MANY LAUGHS, DINNERS AND JOYOUS RIDES ON THE “POKEY”. SHE WELCOMED OUR FAMILY AS HER OWN. YOU ARE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER. GOD SPEED

What a pleasure to have known Joan. Joan was the grande dame of the Rogers Cottages community in New York. She and Bob set the bar for the spirit of friendliness, caring and joviality. Those sentiments radiated in her smile. She will be missed, but will always be in our hearts.

We will never forget how welcoming she was when we first visited Joan and Bob’s cabin on Friends Lake. We were so very touched when on our next visit Joan told us that she wanted us to be the ones who bought their special place. When the time came to let our family know about our decision to buy their cabin, Joan was the one who told them that if we bought their boat (which is what we told our family we were there to do) that she and Bob would throw in the cabin for free! Joan got such a big kick in being a part of the joke on our family.
While we may not have known her as long as others, we knew her long enough that we will miss her. Josey and Joe Lopez
