

Jack was born June 30, 1938 in Newark, NJ, to an Irish family of eight children. At 17, he joined the Army traveling throughout Europe. He married in Worcester, MA and had three children, Pam Michajlow, Brian Batty, and “Sissy” Nancy Rockeleau.
Jack attended Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, then Fitchburg State College pursuing a Master’s Degree. He taught Math and Science in the Massachusetts School System. His career turned to Hospital Engineering and Building Management. In 1981, he was awarded a fellowship by the American Society of Healthcare Engineers.
He met Judy and they married in 1986 blending their families. Jack acquired five more grown children – Glen Ross, Kevin Ross, Dana Conte, Lisa Ross and Brenda Priest.
In 1989, Jack and Judy relocated to Cary. He started his own Heating and Air-conditioning business, which he loved and finally relinquished in 2013. With retirement, Jack returned to his real love of writing – putting to pen his diverse life experiences in short stories and story poems published in local and national story collections. In 2014, he published his first novel, Grafton Square.
Jack is survived by two siblings, Frank Batty, Sr. and Rose Janowski, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday, September 22, 2014 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (200 SE Maynard Road), with Funeral Services to begin at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
