John Bernard Derdul, 62, died Sunday, December 16, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 19, 1956 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Rudolph and Josephine (Harchar) Derdul.
John grew up in the Cleveland area and graduated from Cathedral Latin High School, where he played football, and John Carroll University, where he earned his degree in Business Administration. He enjoyed a long and successful career in IT, spending the past 18 years working for Fidelity Investments.
A devoted husband and father, John loved spending time with his family. A lover of all things Disney, he especially enjoyed taking his family to Disney World in Orlando and on the Disney Cruises. He also loved trips to the beach, bike rides on Cape Cod and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Norton; and his children, J. Patrick and Olivia Derdul of Cary, NC. He also leaves his brothers, Joseph Derdul and his wife Nancy of Colorado, Paul Derdul and his wife Susan Leslie of Maryland, Jerome Derdel and his wife Donna of Pennsylvania, and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Derdul and her husband Dean Herbkersman of Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 21st at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary, NC 27513 starting at 1:00pm. A mass will immediately follow at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
