John received a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University in 1957, a Master of Arts from Ohio State University in 1959 and a Ph.D. from Ohio State in 1961. While a graduate student at Ohio State he met, and in January of 1958 married, Eleanor Sofia Ray, a graduate of Vanderbilt University and a fellow grad student at Ohio State.
John served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years where he was a musician in the Admiral’s band.
Dr. Flynn was an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa from 1961 to 1963. In 1963 he joined the Faculty of Baylor University in Waco,Texas, where he taught undergraduate and graduate students and conducted research for 33 years. He retired from Baylor in 1996 as Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology.
Dr. Flynn is survived by his beloved wife, Elli, a son Michael Charles Flynn, and a daughter, Kathryn Flynn Delacote and 3 grandchildren, Chloe, Max and Ryan Delacote.
A Viewing/Vigil will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, North Carolina on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 200 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 10:00 am.
Burial arrangements will be handled by the Ashton Funeral Home in Easton, Pennsylvania.
