

John Thomas King, 93, passed away on November 10, 2010 at Western Wake Medical Center. Born on January 12, 1917 in Raleigh, NC; he was the son of the late Rufus and Elizabeth Young King and graduated from Cary High School. He attended Campbell College and NC State before being called back into the family business, King’s Peach Orchard. He went on to work for Southern Bell Telephone Company, until retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cary and was proud to be called a Mason, entering in 1945.
Johnie was a devoted husband to the late Pollyanna Pleasants King, who passed away in 2007. Visiting with her every day, Johnie was a cornerstone at Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary. Known affectionately as the “King” of Bingo and the “Candyman”, he thoroughly enjoyed his community of friends.
He is survived by his daughters: Peggy King Brady and husband Ken, of Sparta, NC and Betsy King Tobin and husband Jack, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Kelly Brady Murphy and husband Chad, Lisa Anne Deniz and husband Jasen, Chris Brady, Patrick Tobin and wife Jenn, Katie Tobin and husband Marc Gray and Michael Tobin; by his only great-grandchild: Cole Murphy; by his sisters: Eleanor King Creel, of Cary, Kathleen King Lowry, of Cary and Doris King Carroll, of Raleigh; and by his sister-in-laws: Bertha Pleasants Daniel, Ruby Pleasants Britt and Gerda Pleasants Oleson, all of Cary.
He was preceded in death by four siblings: Waldo King, Margie King Garner, Arnette King Holleman and Mildred King Curtis.
Family will receive friends on Friday, November 12th from 2-3 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, with a funeral service to follow at 3 PM. Interment will be at Montlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family’s preferences is for memorial contributions towards the Heifer International - 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR/USA 72202 or to a charity of choice.
