John Frederick Maloy

John Frederick Maloy, born December 4, 1947, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Florida, John eventually made North Carolina his home in 1999, drawn there by his deep love for the mountains and the beauty of the outdoors. There, he built a life centered around family, laughter, hard work, and the things he loved most.

John was the beloved husband of Caren Maloy, whom he loved beyond measure, and a devoted father to Bill Maloy, John Maloy, Marissa Brumbeloe, Jonathan Maloy, and Lauren Ball. He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

For more than 20 years, John worked for the State of North Carolina Environmental Quality Department, where he dedicated himself to serving his community with integrity and commitment.

John was known for his quick wit, sarcastic humor, and deeply loving heart. He never missed an opportunity to make people laugh, and he cherished spending time with his family above all else. Whether he was traveling the world, fly fishing, blacksmithing, woodworking, or creating something with his hands, John approached life with curiosity, creativity, and passion.

He also spent countless hours patiently waiting in shopping store parking lots for Caren, a role he took on with equal parts devotion, humor, and the occasional well-earned sarcasm. It became one of the many small but meaningful ways he showed his love for her throughout their life together.

To his children and family, he was the best dad in the world. He was always present, dependable, and only a phone call away no matter the hour. He was the foundation of his family, a steady source of love, strength, and comfort whose absence will be felt forever.

John especially loved time spent with his grandchildren and reconnecting with family near and far. The memories, laughter, lessons, and love he gave so freely will continue to live on in all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered every day.
