John was born in Fayette County, AL, to Milton and Loyal Scrivner. He lived, in his own words, ‘a wonderful life’ and was a devoted husband to Sandra Lee Spier Scrivner for over forty years. He was dedicated to his entire family as well. After graduating from the University of Alabama, he enjoyed a long career in engineering with IBM, working on NASA programs including the Jupiter and Apollo. He continued expanding his career at the Research Triangle Park campus after moving to Cary, NC, in 1983.
He is survived by his siblings, Jean Graham and Bobby Joe Scrivner, his sons Brett Scrivner (Sharon Lord) and Zach Scrivner (Jamie), grandchildren Molly and Darren Scrivner, and a plethora of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother James. He was an amazing man, who overcame everything that life threw at him. He was a wonderful, cheerful man that made everyone around him feel special, and he never wanted to be a burden to anyone. He often said his family was the best part of his life.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held at 10am on Friday, Nov. 7th, in the Glenaire Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brightspire Foundation benefitting Glenaire residents. (https://brightspirefoundation.secure.nonprofitsoapbox.com/glenaire)
