He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Pittman Matthews and by his grandparents, Col. and Mrs. Joseph C. Matthews, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. John Melson Pittman, Sr.
He is survived by his father, Chaplain Colonel Joseph C. Matthews, III; two brothers, David and Timothy Matthews; two sisters, Sujin and Virginia Matthews; and numerous friends and relatives.
Mark was born in Richmond, Virginia on January 22, 1960. He graduated from Croughton/RAF Upper Heyford High School near Oxford, England in 1977. He attended Parkland College in Champaign-Urbana Illinois. He traveled extensively with his parents to their various Air Force assignments in England, Hawaii, Korea and the United States.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with a graveside service for the immediate family. The Rev. Betty Connette of Western Blvd. Presbyterian Church will officiate.
