Katharine M. Denton Saunders, age 70, peacefully entered her eternal rest on May 28, 2026. Born on April 26, 1956, in Greenville, North Carolina, Kathy was the daughter of Carl Denton and Katharine Hooker Denton.
Kathy lived life on her own terms. Full of laughter, stories, strong opinions, and a remarkable zest for life, she rarely met a conversation she didn't enjoy. Affectionately known as "Aunt Chatty," she had a gift for making people feel heard, loved, and connected. Family and friends could always count on her for a phone call, a listening ear, a funny story, or advice delivered with both honesty and humor.
Though she spent many years working in the insurance industry, Kathy's greatest devotion was to the people she loved. Fiercely independent but deeply loyal, she remained closely connected to family throughout her life, and her love was steadfast, generous, and enduring. She treasured time shared with her cherished mother, affectionately called "Ma D," and offered her brothers love and support through life's joys and challenges. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Charles "Chuck" Denton and Frederick "Derf" Denton. While she missed them immensely throughout her life, her family finds comfort in imagining their joyful reunion.
Kathy found joy in creating beauty around her. Her beloved home reflected her unique personality and style, filled with treasured collections, warm touches, and thoughtful details that made it unmistakably hers. Those who knew Kathy will remember her as fiercely independent, always ready for a conversation, quick with a laugh, and unapologetically herself through every season of her life. Her warm smile, unforgettable stories, courage, strength, and determination left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Kathy leaves behind her devoted nieces and nephews, Holly and Matt Hoffman and Jesi and Alan Brock; her cherished great-niece and great-nephews, Rilynn, John Matthew, Logan, and Brennon; her sweetheart of five years, Rich Grimaldi; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Nikki Wolfe and the compassionate staff of Gentiva Hospice of Goldsboro for their exceptional care and kindness. With your unwavering support, Kathy was able to face illness with the same independence and spirit that defined her life. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Kathy's life and the countless memories she leaves behind.
